R U OK Day is an initiative run by its namesake charity focused on suicide prevention. It****combines good food, comfortable venues, and real company to help boost the mental health of Australians.
Is It R U Okay Day or RU OK Day?
All spellings are valid, but the official stylisation is R U OK Day, patterned after the name of the R U OK charity organization.
When is RU OK Day?
Every year, R U OK Day takes place every second Thursday of September. Here are some past dates:
- R U OK 2025 will be held on 11 September.
- R U OK 2024 was held on 12 September.
- R U OK 2023 was held on 14 September.
It wasn’t always in September, but it’s been an Australia-wide annual event since 2009.

R U OK Activities for Work
- Tell 2 co-workers what ‘ya like about ‘em… for each additional slice of sanga
- Leave an anonymized feedback jar to be filled with colourful yellow paper about how to improve the workplace (or how it’s currently good)
- Split into teams to guess the ingredients of each sanga just by taste–winners get a gift card
- Don’t force the conversation*
- Curate the lights, sound, or scent to be more relaxing
- For open-plan offices or lounges: move furniture around, or change up ‘ya chairs
- Stay at a totally different venue, and get catering delivered
*CBT and talk therapy is great and all. At the same time, it’s a bit by-the-book and known to have its limits with self-aware people.
